NEW VEC OFFICE HOURS
The VEC’s office hours have changed to Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Telephone messages can be left anytime by calling 802-434-7307.

ECUMENICAL SERVICES & SUPPERS
In the last two months of the year, churches in many communities sponsor ecumenical or interfaith worship services and community suppers. Here is a list of the one’s that we have information about:

  • BRISTOL: Thanksgiving community meal, November 18, 5 – 6:30 p.m. and Christmas Concert on December 15, 7 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Bristol.
  • BURLINGTON: Alternative Thanksgiving at Rock Point on November 24, 1 – 7 p.m., with a potluck vegetarian feast, indoor & outdoor games, advent wreath making, a guided hike, and an ecumenical Thanksgiving service. Suggested donation - $10. RSVP at betsycamps@hotmail.com or by calling 802-658-6233.
  • MORRISVILLE: The First Congregational Church and the Puffer, Wolcott & Elmore United Methodist churches are having a joint Thanksgiving service on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
  • NORTHFIELD: Ecumenical Thanksgiving service at the United Methodist Parish on November 20 at 7 p.m.
  • RICHMOND: Ecumenical Thanksgiving service at the Richmond Congregational Church, November 18, 3 p.m.
  • WEST DOVER: Ecumenical Thanksgiving service at the West Dover Congregational Church, November 21, 7 p.m.
  • WILMINGTON: Ecumenical Christmas Dinner at the Wilmington Congregational Church, December 25, 2 p.m.
  • CHRISTIAN SCIENCE – Services on Thanksgiving Day will be held at Christian Science Churches and Societies across the state in the following communities: Bennington, Brattleboro, Burlington, Chester, Middlebury, Montpelier, Newport, Randolph, Rutland, St. Johnsbury, & Woodstock.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY SERVICE
Save the date! Jan. 20, 2008, 2 p.m., Burlington The Vermont Ecumenical Council’s Prayer & Worship Committee is sponsoring a Week of Prayer for Christian Unity service on Jan. 20, 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Burlington. The Rev. Dr. Meredith Handspicker will give the homily. This service will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

PEACE POTLUCK
A potluck supper will be held on Friday, Nov. 30, 6 p.m. at the Williston Federated Church. Libby Hillhouse, the Project Coordinator of the Vermont Kids4Peace program will give a presentation about this interfaith, education-for -peace organization that encourages children of different cultures and faith traditions to explore their differences and similarities and to learn understanding, tolerance, and respect, while fostering sustainable friendships across lines of conflict. NCC ECO-JUSTICE PROGRAM SEEKS PRAYERS FOR THANKSGIVING PRAYER OFFERING
To commemorate Thanksgiving, the Eco-Justice program of the National Council of Churches is accepting prayers for the nation’s farmers and farm workers as well as the rest of God’s creation. People of faith are encouraged to submit prayers for the prayer offering, lasting through mid December. The prayers will be collected in a web-based anthology to highlight the connection between the food we eat and the farmers who plant, grow, and harvest God’s gracious bounty. Prayers can be submitted online at www.nccecojustice.org/thanksgivingcontest.html The Eco-Justice Program produced two free, downloadable harvest-themed resources available at: www.nccecojustice.org/faithharvestworship.html

ADVENT RETREAT AT ROCK POINT
This Advent Silent Retreat will be at the Bishop Booth Conference Center at Rock Point in Burlington Friday, Nov. 30, 5 p.m. – Sunday, Dec. 2, Noon. The Rev. Craig Smith leads this retreat with meditations offering reflection on how experiences of friendship and pilgrimage open us to practicing God’s presence in the midst of relationships and our daily rounds. Cost: $150 by Nov. 24 for double or triple rooms. For more information, contact John King at 802-862-6834.

SOLITUDE WEEKEND AT LUMEN CHRISTI
This retreat offers personal time for reflection, rest and prayer at the Lumen Christi Retreat House in Benson from Friday, Nov. 30, 7 p.m. – Sunday, Dec. 2, 1 p.m. Fee: $150 For more information, call the Institute for Spiritual Development at 802-846-7084 or go to the website: www.spiritvt.org

CLEMENTWOOD SPIRITUAL LIFE CENTER EVENTS
This center is located in Rutland, next to the campus of the College of St. Joseph.

  • A CHRISTMAS TEA PARTY – Sat., Dec. 8, 1 – 3:30 p.m.
  • The Christmas story will be told through legend and song. Presenter: Catherine Joanne, musician MINDFULNESS AND BUDDHIST MEDITATION – Sat., Jan. 12, 9:30 – Noon. Become aware of the basic principles – enter the silence.
