SPIRITUALITY AS AN ESSENTIAL COMPONENT OF HEALTH CARE
The above title is the topic of Christina Puchalski’s talk for the Templeton Lecture in Spirituality and Medicine of the UVM College of Medicine on Thursday. Oct. 18th, 7 p.m. at the College of Medicine’s Carpenter Auditorium in Burlington. The lecture is free and open to the public. Dr. Puchalski is the Founder and Director of The George Washington Institute for Spirituality and Health. THE DEVELOPMENT OF PEOPLES: ACHIEVING MILLENNIUM GOALS
St. Michaels’s College Edmundite Center for Faith and Culture is sponsoring this conference on Oct. 18-19. It commemorates the 40th anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s ground-breaking encyclical titled “On the Development of Peoples”. Speakers will discuss challenges facing the world regarding full human development and roles they play in achieving the U.N. Millennium Development Goals. The speakers include Archbishop Celestino Migliore, Apostolic Nuncio to the United Nations; J. Bryan Hehir, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University; and Albino Barrera, O.P., Providence College, who will deliver the keynote address at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 18, McCarthy Arts Center, at the college in Colchester. MARCUS BORG EVENT
Dr. Marcus Borg, the well-known author and scholar, will speak in Burlington on Sun., Oct. 21st, 4 – 5:30 p.m. at Champlain College Gymnasium. Tickets are required to attend this free lecture – call 802-862-1898. Champlain College and Christ Church Presbyterian are sponsoring.

FORUM ON GLOBAL POVERTY & U.N. MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS
The Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori, will lead the forum on Fri., Nov. 2nd, 3:30 – 5 p.m. at UVM’s Ira Allen Chapel. It is free and all are welcome, however, tickets are required. They are available at St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Student Centers at UVM and St. Michael’s College, and Peace & Justice Center. HARVEST FESTIVAL AT ROCK POINT
The Bishop Booth Conference Center at Rock Point in Burlington is sponsoring a harvest festival on Saturday, Oct. 27th from 3 – 9 p.m. It will include indoor & outdoor games, cider and donuts, a harvest soup and pumpkin bread supper, a youth service at 6 p.m. and a family friendly contra dance (with instruction) from 7 – 9 p.m. For the supper and dance, a $10 donation is suggested. RETREATS AT LUMEN CHRISTI RETREAT HOUSE IN BENSON, VT

  • A knitting retreat will be held Oct. 26 – 28. Bring your favorite knitting project. Knitters (both new & practiced) will share stories and explore the spirituality of knitting.
  • “Forgiveness: Moving Toward a Peaceful Heart” is the title of the Nov. 9 – 11 retreat. Ann Duhaime, RSM, will facilitate this retreat. Participants may, with God’s grace and through their own work, take steps on the journey to a more peace-filled heart.

CREATING INSPIRED COMMUNITIES
This conference with Dr. Bill Grace will be on Wednesday, Nov. 7th from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Inn at Essex. The participants will explore what brings meaning to their lives and how to build inspired communities through personal practices and community dialogue. Local leaders will join Dr. Grace for an afternoon session. Dr. Bill Grace is the Executive Director, Deep Hope Institute Founder, Center for Ethical Leadership.
