PRAYER INTENTION
Scripture tells us that anything we ask the Father in Jesus’ name, He will grant it. We ask in the name of Jesus that we will be given the unity we are called to possess, and that our understanding and efforts for this Christian unity will be rooted in our real love (agape) for one another.
VOICES FROM CHERNOBYL
This Reader’s Theater play is based on testimony of survivors. It is adapted by Spencer Smith from the book “Voices from Chernobyl” by Svetlana Alexievich. It will be performed at Shelburne Town Hall (on Route 7) on Sunday, Oct. 4, 4 p.m. No charge; donations welcome.
TRANSFORMING VERMONT!
Vermont Interfaith Action (VIA) will hold a workshop teaching the basics of faith-based community organizing on Sat., Oct. 17. This day-long workshop (10 – 3; and registration starting at 9:30) will be held at the Bethany United Church of Christ, 30 North Main St., Randolph.
The workshop will include an introduction to the VIA model of mobilizing grassroots support through one-to-one relationships, as well as tools for targeting and researching issues and organizing meetings with public officials to hold elected representatives accountable. MIGRANT WORKER SUPPORT GROUP WORKSHOP
This Central Vermont support group is sponsoring a training workshop for those who would like to volunteer to assist VT’s migrant workers with the many challenges they face. The training will cover many topics including how to deal with language/cultural barriers, legal rights and more. The training will be at River Arts in Morrisville on Thursday, Oct. 22, 4 – 8 p.m. It is free and open to all and includes dinner. RACISM MATERIALS AT UCC RESOURCE CENTER
The United Church of Christ Resource Center, located in Randolph, has nearly 200 items in its collection of books and A-V materials that address racism from several points of view and levels. These can be borrowed by any VT church (not just UCC) for individual use, church study groups, church education classes, children’s stories, community study groups, and similar uses. There are many copies of some of these materials, ranging from children’s books to scholarly books to locally produced DVDs such as “Uncovering Racism in Vermont.” Return postage is the only cost.
